Octopus tariff benchmark

See the live Octopus Energy variable electricity rate for your region. Use it as an independent reference point to sanity-check what your current supplier is charging — if your unit rate or standing charge sits well above this, it is worth a written review.

Why we use this benchmark

Octopus Energy publishes its full tariff library through an open public API, broken down by the fourteen GB grid supply point regions. The variable tariff (Flexible Octopus) tracks the Ofgem default tariff cap for direct-debit customers, so it is a fair like-for-like reference for any standard variable deal in the same region.

We deliberately do not show a comparison to the cheapest fixed deal — that figure shifts hourly and depends on credit checks, exit fees and bundled add-ons that are not visible on a price page. A formal whole-of-market review is the only way to obtain a binding apples-to-apples quote for your meter.

All figures shown include VAT at the prevailing 5 per cent domestic rate. Business supplies are normally charged at 20 per cent VAT — the unit rate itself is the same before tax.

We send only the postcode to Octopus Energy’s public API. No personal data is stored.

How to read this

This shows one supplier’s published variable tariff for your region — not the whole-of-market position. If your current unit rate is more than 2–3 p/kWh above this figure, or your standing charge is materially higher, request a written case review and we will benchmark across every licensed supplier serving your meter profile.
